Setting up static routes
With network changes inside premier league stadia for the 2019-20 season there may be difficulties accessing various feeds available across the multiple networks due to the order/priority and routing of network traffic. On macOS devices, the solution is to ensure network preferences and IP routing is configured correctly.
It may be best to speak to your IT department who should be able to help with network-related issues. Otherwise, to help users set this up, we have a NetworkUtil application, of which the latest version (1.1.0) can be downloaded from https://we.tl/t-8fUbpdsuKm. Download it and read on to learn how to use it:
The top area displays the IP routes currently set (or ready to be set if modified by the user) which direct network traffic bound for a certain Destination (IP address) to use a certain Gateway (which implies which adapter to use).
← In case of any network changes done outside of NetworkUtil (such as disabling an adapter), click the button that looks like this located at the bottom to refresh the IP routes.
Before continuing, it is useful to know which IPs and Router IPs your adapters use for each network - to help reference them against more user-friendly adapter names (e.g. “WiFi” instead of just “en1”):
Choose Open Network Preferences… from the network menu
For WiFi adapters:
IPs will be found like so:
Click on Advanced → TCP/IP to find the Router IP
For other adapters:
If using Focus software 3.3.0 or newer (recommended):
For internet access (including data feeds over the internet):
identify which adapter has Internet access;
a simple test would be to disable/disconnect all adapters and test the Internet access (e.g. browsing to www.google.com) whilst only enabling/connecting one adapter at a time.
otherwise to save time, read on for using the Adapter connectivity tool.
ensure there is IP routing for default (0.0.0.0) destinations through this adapter via its Router IP;
macOS automatically adds Destination 0.0.0.0 routes through all enabled adapters (via its Router IP), for example for two adapters below:
If the 0.0.0.0 route appears to be missing an entry - try disabling and re-enabling the adapter:
For WiFi adapters:
Choose Turn Wi-Fi Off and then Turn Wi-Fi On from the network menu.For other adapters:
If unpluggable, you may unplug, wait a few seconds and then plug back it back in; or
From the Network preferences, make note of the value for Configure IPv4 and then select Off, click Apply, before re-selecting the previous value and clicking Apply again.
Provided there are 0.0.0.0 destination entries for each adapter you wish to test - you can test for internet connectivity by selecting the adapter and clicking Test from the Adapter connectivity box.
Ensure that the adapter with internet access has the highest priority in the network server order [1]:
From the Network preferences, click the cog icon pop-up menu, then choose Set Service Order.
Drag services into the order you want.
Click OK, then click Apply to make the new settings active.
For video IP streams, Focus will scan each network adapter to find them so no need to configure routing for these streams.
If using Focus software older than 3.3.0 (obsolete):
For internet access (including data feeds over the internet) follow the same steps above for Focus 3.3.0 or newer.
For video IP streams, we require specifying the adapter for each video IP stream that is not available from the default/internet adapter. Watch this demo video for how to setup the routes for SDP streams to use the adapter with IP 192.168.0.13. Note that in this video, this is the only adapter currently enabled and the user might still need to follow steps to configure internet access (assuming the adapter with IP 192.168.0.13 does not have internet access).
